BEST OPTION: How To Go From Johor Bahru To Desaru
The quickest and best option for travelling from Johor Bahru To Desaru is to take a private taxi.
The cheapest option is to take a bus.
Here’s a summary of your options:
|Mode of transport
|People who want the cheapest option
|People who are happy to hire a car or who like to stop along the way
|Anyone who wants the easiest and most straightforward way to get between JB and Desaru
Option 1: Johor Bahru To Desaru Bus
There are two options to get between Johor Bahru and Desaru, both of which have drawbacks.
Choice 1: Via Causeway Link
Causeway Link runs a bus service from JB Sentral and Desaru Coast Riverside on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9am. It takes approximately an hour and a half.
This bus is on-demand only and you must book online a day before to be able to take it.
It costs RM66 which includes the return journey on the same day. If you want to stay in Desaru, you’ll need another bus ticket to get back to Johor Bahru afterwards.
The return journey is at 6pm.
Desaru Coast Riverside is close to the Adventure Waterpark so this works if you are looking for Johor Bahru to Desaru water park buses. Free shuttles run from here to the main hotels as well.
Choice 2: Via Kota Tinggi
If the above bus doesn’t work for you, you can take ordinary buses to Desaru – but it’s a lot more time and effort.
You need to:
- Take a bus from JB Sentral or JB Larkin to Kota Tinggi. Bus 227 runs regularly from JB Sentral and takes about an hour and 10 minutes. Bus T10 also runs regularly and takes about the same amount of time.
From JB Larkin, these buses also run (but go via JB Sentral so take longer) or you can take a direct express bus by booking here. The express bus takes about an hour and is more comfortable.
- From Kota Tinggi bus station, take a bus to Taman Desaru. There are a few options that take just under an hour such as bus P2 and PE004.
- From Taman Desaru, take a taxi or bus to your accommodation. Bus PE001 heads to the beach and resort area.
If you have the budget, I recommend a taxi to avoid all this effort and time.
Option 2: Johor Bahru To Desaru By Car
If you have access to car (you can hire one here), driving between Johor Bahru and Desaru is very easy.
It takes just over an hour, although you’ll need to pay tolls to go the quickest route.
Head out of JB on route 3 and then take the E22 to Desaru.
Option 3: Johor Bahru To Desaru Taxi
The quickest, easiest and most comfortable way to get between Johor Bahru and Desaru is by taxi.
We can arrange a taxi to pick you up from wherever you want in Johor Bahru and take you to wherever you want in Desaru.
This is just so easy and saves taking three buses with your luggage in the heat while you’re not sure exactly what’s happening.
This costs RM370 for up to five people or we can book bigger taxis for you.
Option 4: Johor Bahru To Desaru Day Trip
If you want to just visit Desaru for the day, this is also possible.
You can take the bus option above on the Causeway Link to do this on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
You can also make it ultra easy and book a private taxi to both take you to Desaru and pick you up again when you are done. This is RM370 each way.
Desaru To Johor Bahru
The return journey Desaru Coast-Johor Bahru is much the same as the journey there. You can simply reverse my steps above.
EXCEPT if you want to travel by bus from Desaru to Johor Bahru, this is easier as there is an additional option.
You can take the Causeway Link back at 6pm on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays OR there is also a direct bus from Bandar Penawar Bus Terminal to JB Larkin bus terminal 3-4 times a day at different times of the day.
This is run by LA Holidays and costs RM20.
Bandar Penawar Bus Terminal is a short taxi ride from the Desaru Beach and nearby resorts. You can also take a local bus here.
Of course, you can also take a taxi from Desaru to Johor Bahru for the same price as above. This is the quickest and easiest way to go.
You now know how to get from Johor Bahru to Desaru. A taxi is the quickest and easiest option, but also the most expensive. It’s possible to take a bus, but this can be tricky.
