Semporna Seaview Hotel Review

I stayed at this hotel by myself while exploring the surrounding area. I booked a taxi via the hotel easily before arrival between here and Tawau Airport.

Check-in was smooth. You have to pay a RM50 cash deposit.

Address: Jalan Kastam, Taman Bandar Semporna, Semporna

The Semporna Seaview Hotel is located in the jetty area just by the main town. It’s close to arriving buses and there are eating and shopping options close by as well as being a quick walk to the jetty for snorkelling tours.

The hotel is quite striking and easy to spot as you come over the bridge to this part of Semporna. It’s just to the right as you cross over. Look for red.

I found it the perfect spot.

Rooms

There are a range of room types. All are double and twin and on the small side which makes the best for solo travellers, couples or two friends.

Room all come with tea and coffee making facilities, air-conditioning, hair dryers and private bathrooms. They are on the basic side, but comfortable, modern and well presented. There are flatscreen TVs.

All rooms have windows but you pay more for a balcony or better view.

What is cool is that the rooms all look like they are in shipping containers. It’s quite striking.

What is less cool is that there aren’t any elevators and no one to help with luggage. I can’t say I enjoyed lugging my suitcase up to the second level. At least, there are just two levels.

Deluxe King Room

My room

I booked this room because I’m a sucker for a view and this room has a sea view. Although, I ended up arriving just as the sun was setting so I didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy it.

On entry to my room, I was in the middle of it. The bathroom was to my left. The bathroom has a modern shower, basin and toilet with towels and some toiletries. Ahead of me was some hanging space, two shelves and tea and coffee making facilities as well as two bottles of water.

There was a hair dryer on the wall and then the king sized bed with bedside tables. There’s also a wall-mounted flatscreen TV and air-conditioning.

There was a balcony area with my great sea view. There are two chairs and a table here too. Unfortunately, another guest had hung some of their clothes on my balcony which ruined my first impression of it.

My room was small, but clean, comfortable and modern.

The only real problem is that it wasn’t well soundproofed at all. While I never heard my neighbours, there were a lot of street sounds including a live band that played until 11:30pm. I found it hard to sleep.

Facilities

Semporna Seaview Hotel reception

When it comes to facilities, this hotel keeps things simple. There is free wifi (worked great) and parking available on-site. There’s a big, modern reception area with seating.

Daily housekeeping is available, and I was able to book my onward, long-distance taxi without a problem as well as leave my luggage for the day.

There is no dining on-site but there are some great places to eat in the vicinity.

Final Words

Staying at the Semporna Seaview Hotel is easy and comfortable. It’s a great midrange option in a great spot and I highly recommend it for your time in Semporna. I wish it was quieter and actually, I would not get the seaview room next time, as I think it would be quieter in the rooms that were facing away.

I couldn’t find anywhere better to stay in this town.
