On my recent trip to Sarawak, I had a one night stopover in Kuching on my way to Mulu National Park. Since I was flying in late, I wanted a nice and easy hotel option that was close to the airport.
It didn’t take much research to discover the Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Kuching. This hotel is literally across the road from the airport so it doesn’t get closer than that.
The Raia Hotel Kuching also gets great reviews, has a good range of facilities and on-site dining so it ticked every box I was looking for.
So is it as good as it seems? Is this a great place to stay? Keep reading for my full Raia Hotel Kuching review.

Raia Hotel Kuching Review
The Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching has 237 rooms and suites and is rated 4 stars. The outside of the building itself is very cool. It has won awards with the roof design being inspired by the indigenous fabric, ‘Pua Kumbu’.
It stands out, especially as it is a big building.
The front desk is open 24 hours. I arrived at nearly midnight and check-in was quick and easy. It was a great start!
Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Location
Address: No. 1 Lot 1586, Block 17, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak
As mentioned before, the Raia Hotel Convention Centre Kuching location is opposite the airport. So it’s fabulous if you want to be close to that or have a late night arrival/early morning departure. It’s a big building and you can clearly see it when you exit the airport.
However, it’s a bit of a distance from the city centre, and there isn’t much else in the immediate surrounds.
While the hotel is super close to the airport and very much in walking distance, it is a little awkward to walk here as there are no footpaths or pedestrian crossings. The airport has a paid shuttle, but a Grab taxi is only RM5 and took a few minutes.
However, on arrival, I struggled to get a Grab and could see the airport right in front of me so I walked. It took less than five minutes straight through the airport car park, but it was awkward crossing the road in the dark as there is a big median strip with grass and plants and there were some holes I nearly hurt my ankle in as I couldn’t see them. You wouldn’t want to do this with a suitcase.
I walked back in the day to go to the convenience store at the airport. Without luggage in the daylight, it was fine.
Raia Hotel Kuching Room Options
There is a range of room types at the Raia Hotel Kuching. There are superior king and twin rooms which are like the standard hotel option. Then there are a range of suites. Suites also have a separate living area.
The family suite also has a second bedroom and comes with a king sized bed and two single beds. Families and groups will also like the residential suite which has three bedrooms. There is also a presidential suite for more luxury.
All rooms are modern, well furnished and clean. They have everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel with tea and coffee making facilities, air-conditioning, desk, flatscreen TV, minifridge and private bathroom.
Superior Twin Room
I was staying by myself so I went the cheapest option – the Superior Room. It was still spacious and great though.
On entry to my room, there was a wide entry way with the bathroom on one side and room for my luggage, cupboards (with safe) and tea and coffee making facilities and a minifridge on the other.
The bathroom had a spacious shower, basin area with plenty of toiletries and a toilet.
Straight in front of me in the room was two twin beds, a bedside table, floor lamp, single couch with coffee table, desk area with phone and a flatscreen TV on the wall.
Everything was in great condition and looked modern and cheerful. The blackout blinds were great and just what I needed after a late arrival.
I had a view from my window of the pool and playground area and out to the airport. I couldn’t wait to use it.
The room was ultra quiet when I arrived, but I could hear noises from the hallway during the day. I never heard a sound from the airport or arriving aircraft.

Facilities
There is a nice outdoor Raia Hotel Kuching swimming pool perfect for washing off your flight or a busy day sightseeing. I surprisingly found it a little cool, but it was so nice to swim around in.
There’s also an outdoor playground near the pool and plenty of outdoor seating.
Free parking and wifi is available. You can also book the hotel airport shuttle, but there is a charge. A Grab taxi seems a better alternative to me… As long as you can get one.
As you would expect from the name, Raia Hotel & Convention Centre, there is also a convention centre here and business facilities.
Raia Hotel Kuching Restaurant
There is both a restaurant and a lounge open all day. You can grab the Raia Hotel Kuching buffet breakfast from 6:30am or a meal at any time up to 10:30pm at the Kenyalang Restaurant.
There is also room service available from 12pm – 10pm. I had a very tasty mee goreng. I was surprised how good and fresh it was, as I don’t usually find room service in hotels to be the best. The prices were reasonable and the service fast too.
I also saw a sign for a poolside food and drinks menu in the lobby. I saw no evidence of this in the pool area, but I imagine you could order room service to eat there which would be quite nice.
Final Words
The Raia Hotel Kuching is the perfect place to head for a hotel in Kuching near the airport. It’s convenient, modern and comfortable and I found this the perfect place to stay for my one night stop.
