Best Areas In Langkawi

When considering areas in Langkawi, the main thing to decide is if you want to stay in a busy, central area with plenty of eating options or in a more remote location. Most of the Langkawi best resorts are in a more remote place.

You also have to consider if staying beachfront is important to you. The top rated resorts are all beachfront, but if you want to save money, not being by the beach will do this.

There are great beaches all over the island so finding a good one is not difficult.

Pantai Cenang is the main beach area. Perfect if you want to be able to access everything easily. Pantai Tengah is just down the coast from here and is a little quieter.

Kuah is the main town on the island and the place for a more local experience rather than beaches. It’s convenient to the main ferry terminal.

On our last visit to Langkawi, we stayed in multiple areas and this is a great way to go. If you are struggling to choose which area you want to stay I recommend considering the same. A few days in a central spot like Pantai Cenang while you sight-see and enjoy the action can be a great way to start. Then you can finish off with a few days in a 5-star resort in a secluded spot. Tanjung Rhu Resort Review

Address: Mukim, 07000 Langkawi

Also located in Tanjung Rhu area, Tanjung Rhu Resort is a more affordable 5-star resort by a beautiful beach. While you’ll love your surrounds, you are located relatively far from most Langkawi attractions. That is one of the biggest pros and cons when staying here!

You are super close to mangrove tours of Kalim Geoforest Park though, and there is a row of food/souvenir/watersport stands by the public entrance to the beach just next to the resort.

This beach resort is home to 6 restaurants, lounges and bars as well as two big pools, one for adults and one for families. They are both by the beach with great views. They both have adjoining bars too.

There is a gym, tennis court, a reading room (with board games), water sports and a fashion and gift shop. The facilities are all well maintained and gorgeous.

There are seven room types at the Tanjung Rhu Beach Resort Langkawi. They are all called suites and even the cheapest room type is quite spacious at 50 sqm. They all have a living area, spacious ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning, flatscreen TV, mini-fridge and everything you would expect from a top 5 star resort. The rooms are grand and much better than they look in photos (which look great anyway!).

There is a family suite option which is a two-bedroom suite for up to five people. These also have a living area.

Whilst situated in a somewhat isolated location, this Langkawi beach resort is only 7.6 kilometres from the Langkawi Airport and close to popular attractions such as the SkyBridge and cable car, so it’s better located than many of the resorts in this list.

You are also near to Telaga Harbour Marina which is a popular starting point for cruises or ferries to Thailand. We stayed here in between arriving at Telaga from Koh Lipe and flying out of the airport and it was convenient for his.

Given the resorts’ isolated location, there aren’t many dining options close by.  The food we ate at the resort was average and more focused on western food than local options.

Experience world-class service, every day at the Pelangi Beach Resort. Located at the quieter end of the main tourist stretch in Cenang, this is one of the great resorts in Langkawi Malaysia for travellers who want to experience a luxury hotel in a central location.

As you would expect for a luxury resort, there are many facilities including two outdoor, free-form swimming pools. There is also a gym, sauna, squash, mini-golf, tennis, archery and bicycle rental. It’s also one of the best family hotels in Langkawi. There is plenty here for kids to do, including a kids club and a dinosaur water play area with slides.

For dining, there are restaurants, a lounge and a pool bar. You are also just a short walk from many other eating options. And, of course, you have a beautiful beach to enjoy.

The Casa Del Mar is another of the top Langkawi resorts located on Pantai Cenang. It’s just 10-minutes away from the airport, and you can easily walk to the local restaurants, bars and shops in the area. 

The facility has 34 polished, and beautifully furnished rooms which feature balconies, terraces, mini-fridges, flatscreen TVs, iPod docks, tea/coffee making facilities, air-conditioning and private bathrooms.  Suites add in spacious dining and living areas, while upgraded suites feature hammocks, separate living room, and four poster beds.

If you are searching for the hotels in Pantai Cenang Langkawi close to all the main attractions for a budget price, Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel is a great choice.

Located along the main tourist stretch in Cenang, this hotel is within walking distance to attractions such as Underwater World and Rice Museum as well as being surrounded by numerous restaurants and shops.

Each room has modern furnishing with some rooms having beach views. Whilst this isn’t beachfront and it doesn’t have a pool, you are only a few hundred metres from the stunning Cenang beach.

Arch Studio Cenang Review

Address: Jalan Pantai Chenang, Kampung Lubok Buaya, 07000 Langkawi

This mid-range boutique resort is a great option if you are looking for a combination of price, location and quality. Exploring from here is very easy and I had a great stay here with my kids.

It’s definitely a step (or ten) above the Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel with a great range of room types including options for families and groups of up to four people. They are modern and beautifully presented.

All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, wifi, air-conditioning, comfortable beds, stylish facilities, flatscreen TV and mini-fridge. Some have kitchenettes, separate living areas, views, balconies and more. Some rooms you need to climb stairs to enter and some are loft style apartments so you’ll have stairs in your room. There is no elevator here.

Another reason we loved this hotel was the small pool. Many of the budget hotels in this area do not have this. A freshly cooked breakfast is also available, and there is a lovely art and craft shop on-site.

It’s located in the heart of the main tourist area in Pantai Cenang. It’s not beachfront but it’s just across the road from the beach and Underwater World. It’s surrounded by many eating options.

Worst Parts?

It’s not beachfront (but you can be there in moments). Our room didn’t have curtains we could open so it was dark. The bathroom door was broken.

Located in Pantai Tengah, not far from the main tourist hub of Pantai Cenang, this is the best resort to stay in Langkawi for those looking for a well priced hotel in a quiet location within easy reach to the main tourist strip.

This is a relatively new resort in Langkawi which only opened in 2018. The hotel features an on-site restaurant, gym and a huge swimming pool. There is a range of room options, all with modern furnishing.  You can choose a standard hotel room or opt for a villa situated in the garden, which even includes your own private spa.

The Camar Resort is a great 4-star resort in a quiet location on a stunning beach but still within a good distance from the main hub and activity.

The Adya Hotel in Langkawi is a grand building that overlooks Kuah Town and is surrounded by a range of restaurants and shops. In fact, there is even a shopping centre located right next door.

The hotel features two infinity pools (one women’s only), a kids club, gym, restaurant and other facilities that you’d expect from a 4-star hotel. All rooms have either a sea or city view and are all beautifully designed and elegantly furnished in a Moroccan theme. There is no alcohol available.

Located in the heart of Kuah Town, this hotel is near the main retail and entertainment districts as well as the Kuah jetty making it a great base for exploring Langkawi attractions.

You can also join the yoga classes or trekking trips and for the little ones, there is a kids club. On-site, there are also 5 restaurants and 3 bars so there’s no need even to leave the island.

Rooms have been decorated with timber furnishings and modern amenities. They include free wifi. Each room has its own private balcony with a sea or garden view. For those who like a little more space, consider a suite which has 2 bedrooms, as well as a separate seating and dining area.
