Top 5 Best Mulu National Park Accommodation
Park Headquarters Review
Address: Gunung Mulu National Park, No 11, Mulu National Park, Pekan Mulu 98070, Miri
Near: Located inside the national park
Room Types: Garden bungalows with a king and single bed, longhouse rooms sleeping up to 5 adults, twin rooms and dorm beds in a hostel
Top Features:
- The only option located inside the national park
- A range of room options
- Room rate includes breakfast
- 24 hour electricity
For the most convenient option, you can’t beat Gunung Mulu National Park Headquarters accommodation. This is the only accommodation option located within the national park meaning you have easy access to all the walks and attractions the national park offers.
There is a variety of rooms to choose from depending on your needs and budget. I stayed in the deluxe garden bungalow which was awesome. These bugalows are comfortable and have a terrace area, air-conditioning and a king and super single bed with space for up to three adults.
Other options include the twin rooms in the Rainforest Lodge which has two super singles beds. There are also Longhouse rooms which have either four super single beds or are family options which add a king bed to the single beds.
The most affordable option is the Park Headquarters Hostel which has 14 beds and a shared bathroom. These have ceiling fans only. All other rooms have air-conditioning. Beds are comfortable with thick mattresses and linen and towels included. However, they do book out so it is advised to book early.
On-site, you’ll find the open air Cafe Mulu serving breakfast, local and western dishes. The food here is great, and I was happy to discover they even had wine on offer. Perfect after a day of exploration!
The Discovery Centre is adjacent to the Cafe where you can learn about the diversity of this world heritage area. There’s also a shop selling various essentials and souvenirs including t-shirts, hats and basic groceries.
Rooms are cleaned daily. All rooms include breakfast, and the location is just stunning. At night it’s easy to fall asleep to the sound of the forest.

Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa is by far the most luxurious option you’ll find anywhere near the national park. Whilst it is 2.5km away from the entrance, the resort operates a free shuttle to the Park Headquarters and to and from the airport.
This resort has all the comforts you would expect in a 5 star resort with the added benefit of Mulu Park’s stunning scenery. There is all day dining at the on-site Marriott Café, a lovely open air bar named the River Bar, an extensive fitness centre, a grand ballroom for events and a modest pool.

Room Types: Double, twin and triple (family) rooms
Top Features:
- All rooms have private bathrooms

Benarat Lodge is a nice homestay with a bit more to offer than some of the very basic options. This homestay includes a cooked breakfast, an on-site swimming pool and a nice restaurant. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and other meals can be ordered by request.
You can choose from double, twin and triple rooms, each with air-conditioning and private bathrooms. These rooms are decent and comfortable with a solid bed, a fan, linen and towels provided. Wifi can be organised for a fee, but it isn’t the most reliable.

Near: 2.4km away from the national park entrance
Room Types: Twin/double, triple and quadruple rooms
Top Features:
- Friendly and welcoming homestay

Mulu Village is probably as basic as it gets when it comes to a homestay in Mulu, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good choice. This homestay has some very accommodating home owners which is important when you’re somewhere this isolated. You will feel well taken care of.
Rooms are of the most basic variety with a variety of configurations. You can pick from quadruple, twin/double and triple rooms. All are basic and have clean beds and a fan. Some have a private bathroom. Budget rooms have a shared bathroom.
The property is a homely stilt house which matches the natural environment. It has a terrace and is located close to a nearby restaurant offering good, simple meals, and a small supermarket.
At 2.4km away from the park headquarters, it is accessible and the host can offer both airport pick up and park transfers, but it would be best the confirm this with them directly. There is a simple restaurant nearby and fresh fruit and snacks are also available.
Electricity is intermittent and only available at night, as with other homestays in the area. Wifi is available. but it not super convenient due to electricity shortages, and the fact that its not on-site but nearby.
