Melaka (also spelt Malacca) is one of the nicest places to visit in Malaysia and a must visit for anyone interested in history or visiting UNESCO heritage listed sites.
Melaka has a varied history thanks to its strategic location on the Straits of Melaka. It developed from a Malay sultanate to periods of Portuguese, Dutch and English colonial rule to finally being part of Malaysia today. It’s UNESCO listed thanks to this history and you can visit what remains of it today.
Melaka has plenty of attractions but it’s also a great place to just wander and be, especially on its pretty riverfront or in its old town.
Melaka is also an easy place to visit thanks to being just a short bus ride from either Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru. In fact, it’s possible to day trip here from either Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, but I recommend you stay longer.
This isn’t just because there are plenty of things to do in Melaka but also because there are some great accommodation options for great prices (find them below!).
Below, you will find all our best guides to Melaka in our Melaka blog so you can have the best time possible in this destination.
