Taman Negara has one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests. Experts have calculated that it’s around 130 million years old! The national park is also home to the tallest point in Peninsular Malaysia, Gunung Tahan, which clocks in at over 2000 metres above sea level.

Taman Negara – Where To Stay

The best place to stay is right at the entrance to Taman Negara. Mutiara Taman Negara Resort is the only accommodation located right here. It is a hotel Taman Negara national park right at this entrance by the Park Centre.

The next best place for accommodation in Taman Negara is just across the river in Kuala Tahan. River taxis cross the river often for only RM1.

Kuala Tahan accommodation is a short (uphill) walk from this jetty.

Note that in general, the accommodation around Taman Negara is not that flash. There are no 5-star resorts in Taman Negara, and you are in the jungle. Take this into consideration when making your booking.

If you’re planning on doing a lot of outdoor adventuring, you’ll likely want a comfortable place to put your feet up. And you’ll get that at Mutiara Taman Negara Resort.

This place is more expensive than others on this list for accommodation near the national park. But it is simply the best choice, and it’s still cheap relative to other countries for the great location. 

If you book here, you’ll get your own private chalet, with one, two or three beds that can sleep up to four people. Each one also has a private bathroom with a shower and hot water. There are also some private bungalows with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room.

Each option is air-conditioned, has fans and tea and coffee making facilities.

If you’re looking for a WiFi connection, this place has fantastic wifi. You can also have a drink at the on-site restaurant and buy supplies at the on-site mini mart.

When it comes to getting out and exploring Taman Negara, you can easily book all your tours and activities here either before you arrive or once you are here. The trails all start here as well.

Each guest gets their own chalet for ultimate privacy. It’s in the best spot for exploring Taman Negara as you can walk straight into the park in moments from here. This location simply cannot be beat.

Worst Parts?

The resort could use a facelift – although I saw that happening while I was there.

This is the nicest place to stay in Taman Negara. National park hotel research can be cumbersome sometimes, but picking Mutiara Taman Negara Resort makes it easy.

Address: Lot 816, Kuala Tahan

Near: 5-minute walk into the main part of the village

Room Types: Standard bedrooms with a range of beds as well as shared bedrooms

Another place to call your home away from home while in the national park is Xcape Resort. Taman Negara has a lot to see and do, that’s why you’re coming here! And what’s great is that this accommodation offers guided tours of the park. 

This property has standard-sized rooms and you can choose the number of beds you need. You can also book a room with a shared bathroom to save some cash.

Enjoy hot showers during your stay, air-conditioning and there is free WiFi in the lobby. There’s also a cafe on-site and your reservation comes with breakfast every morning.

Honestly, I think there are better places for this price.

Worst Parts?

They still advertise having a pool, but they don’t. The food and service could be improve, and the resort is showing its age. Cleanliness is also an issue.

Near: Close to everything

For backpackers and travellers looking to save as much money as they can while not sacrificing comfort, Abot Guest House could be the place for you! This Taman Negara national park accommodation is a cheap spot featuring standard-sized bedrooms. 

Each room has a bathroom along with air-conditioning and tea and coffee making facilities.. 

This hotel Taman Negara, Pahang is in a great location in the village near food and shopping options as well as the boat across into the national park.

It’s simple, but comfortable in a good location. You’ll save money on accommodation by staying at Abot Guest House. 

Worst Parts?

There is a bug problem here. Many reviews complain about the bugs that don’t seem to be cleaned up.

If travelling on a strict budget is the name of the game for you then Abot Guest House is a solid option. It’s not loaded with amenities. However, it hits your basic traveller needs of having a clean room, access to water and food and a bathroom with a hot shower.

Address: Kampung Padang, Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan

Near: Sits by the Tembeling River

Room Types: Standard-sized rooms and one-bedroom chalets

  • Very clean
  • Laundry facilities  

Balai Serama Guesthouse is another great option for a Taman Negara resort. Pahang has some tasty dishes, and you’ll be able to try them at the on-site restaurant. This accommodation offers one-bedroom chalets as well as standard-sized rooms. You’ll have air-conditioning and a private bathroom with a hot shower as well. 

All rooms also have terraces and tea and coffee making facilities. There are only nine rooms in total so it can feel quite private.

The on-site restaurant serves the included breakfast. They also offer a buffet dinner. It has a great outlook over the river.

Like a lot of other accommodation around Taman Negara, this place doesn’t have an internet connection. But the gardens on this property are absolutely gorgeous, and they run right beside the Tembeling River. The service at this guesthouse is very good.

However, do note that this option isn’t in Kuala Tahan. You’re about a 7-minute drive from there and entry to Taman Negara. The owner and staff at the hotel can drive you when required, but it’s not as ideal as staying closer.

This simple guesthouse is well presented and clean. It’s great value. You can choose to stay in a queen room or family room with double bed and two singles. Most rooms have their own bathrooms, but you can also save money with a family room with shared bathroom.

Rooms have air-conditioning, and there is a long balcony you can share. The rooms are simple but clean.

This hotel has an on-site restaurant, but its opening hours are variable.

The downside of staying here is that it’s a 15-minute walk into the village to eat when the on-site restaurant is closed and to access shops and services.
